Fall in NoVA from the Appalachian Trail:

The foliage is a little past peak, but the color was still pretty enough down below in the valley to hike to this spot. Notice the leaves are already off the trees in front of me. You can just barely make out the Allegheny Mountains to the West and the white smudge in the middle is part of the Shenandoah River. Boy was it windy and cold today, especially up at this slightly higher altitude. On my way home, I stopped at a Farm Stand that sells Apple Cider from a farm that’s right next to Johnny’s farm. Chances are Johnny contributed to the “fertilization” of the very trees that grew the apples of this cider that I drink.
I also picked up a container of Virginia peanuts. Which until I dropped one on the floor and Rocky beat me to it, I had no idea dogs liked peanuts. A peanut for a peanut.
I drove home, eyes peeled for the crazy deer running from hunters(well not exactly on Sunday) and just the whole Rut thing. It’s like carnage out here right now and scary to drive around too. I’m just waiting for that one unavoidable moment. Once uneventfully home, I heated up some of the Apple Cider with some added mulling spices. Perfect after being out in the cold air…and it made the house smell good too. What a nice way to spend a Sunday.
Oh. By the way…Gasoline…$1.87. Nice!

Mmmm! Warm spiced cider. Drooling now ….
I love Florida, but I do miss Fall and the leaves changing colors and the leaves crunching when you walk on them and the smell apple orchards… But I do not miss the season that follows…
